2025 Summer Workshop
Beyond the T-Test: A Practical Guide to Coding and Statistics for Large-Scale Datasets
July 9th, 10th, and 11th
WORKSHOP CONTENT
This hands-on workshop is designed to guide you through the challenges of analyzing complex data, including small sample sizes and large number of variables, and missing values. Whether you're working with biomarkers, metabolites, proteins, or large non-biological datasets, you'll gain practical skills to improve the reliability and interpretability of your findings. We’ll begin with an introduction to core statistical concepts, walking through traditional approaches like t-tests and ANOVA, and compare them to more advanced methods—such as limma, LASSO, and sPLS-DA—that are better suited for large and complex datasets. No prior experience in statistics is required!
All workshop materials will be provided to participants.
Total cost [all 3 days] of the workshop is $300 total per individual for UConn Affiliates (Previously $450). Inquire about external rates. If you cannot attend all 3 days please contact us (timothy.e.moore@uconn.edu).

Setup Guidelines
Installing R and Rstudio
Windows
Install R by downloading and running this .exe file from CRAN. Also, please install the RStudio IDE. Note that if you have separate user and admin accounts, you should run the installers as administrator (right-click on .exe file and select "Run as administrator" instead of double-clicking). Otherwise problems may occur later, for example when installing R packages.
MacOS
Install R by downloading and running this .pkg file from CRAN. Also, please install the RStudio IDE.
Linux
You can download the binary files for your distribution from CRAN. Or you can use your package manager (e.g. for Debian/Ubuntu run sudo apt-get install r-base
and for Fedora run sudo dnf install R
). Also, please install the RStudio IDE.
